The translation of basic scientific research to practical and deployable innovations to benefit people and the planet is as old as human history itself. From the discovery of fire to the transformative basic research that is the basis of the technology for space exploration, high tech defense operations, environmental or health issues, humans have translated scientific research into the technological innovations that have advanced society for the benefit of people and the planet.
To solve the increasingly complex scientific challenges faced by our planet and its inhabitants those formally trained in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines – whether in academe, government or industry – need to have the skils to actively participate in the translation research into innovations and to have the skills to work collaboratively in developing and implementing those innovations.
Judy’s entire career has revolved around the translation of research into commercial innovations and in ensuring that scientists and engineers actively engage in the process – first with large corporations with a focus on chemicals and consumer products (see ABOUT for details) and now in developing and delivering training for university innovators and founding and advising start ups.
