InnovationLab and Lens of the Market workshops for the Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry

November 2012
Judy and Joseph Steig, NCIIA's Treasurer and Manager of Venture Development, facilitated two workshops for the Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry (CSMC) at the University of Oregon in early November. Lens of the Market (LoM) is an introductory 1-day workshop for STEM graduate students wishing to learn the language of the market in addition to the language of science. InnovationLab is a deeper dive into what it really means to take an idea from the lab to the market, with students considering their own research as they work for 2 intensive days with Judy and Joseph onsite, and then over the course of 6 months develop value propositions and do market research based on their own science.

Intersection - The Planet, Careers, STEM and YOU

May 31, 2012
Judy visted Rutgers University - her alma mater - at the end of May and presented "Intersection - The Planet, Careers, STEM and YOU" to an audience of chemistry and engineering graduate students and faculty. Judy's stressed that scientific solutions are needed to address major global issues, and that scientists and engineers are the key to these solutions! Innovation is needed, meaning that the results of scientific research need to be translated to practical use and deployed effectively as solutions to market needs.
